It's time for cake!! My little girl's cake class today

Today was the fourth and final day in my little girl's cake decorating class. I can not believe what a wonderful job she did decorating it. We have enjoyed the class so much! The group of girls/women in it are wonderful. I don't have the talent so I sit and watch. Today I told them I guess I am like a "Soccer Mom" or "Stage Mom" but with cakes, so I guess I am a "Cake Mom". I try not to hover over her, I have no clue how to do the things she has accomplished and I am so proud. She honestly decorated all her cakes by herself. Scroll way down to see more cakes and you will see the progress she made!
She is only 11!!
This is her final cake!!
Let me take you through the steps:
Bake the cake

Begin to ice it

Continue icing but with fine coat. Then pat with a Viva Paper Towel

Next bring the cake into class and learn the basic weave technique. They learned the technique today on a practice board and iced the cake today after learning the technique JUSTtoday! She had fun with it and did a super job! Her teacher Deb helped her finish up the back because her poor tiny wrists hurt so badly.
She made the Royal Icing flowers last week to put on her cake.
The week before the class made Birds out of Color Flow but we were out of town. Amber, the most darling girl, gave us two birdies. Here is my little girl's final cake!

Here is her teacher, Ms.Debbie, giving my little girl her diploma for graduating course two. She is now ready to move on to the third course which involves a two tiered cake! I am so proud of her efforts. We love Deb. She is the best teacher. I made her this little booklet this morning, as a thank you. It has a big cake on it.

Here are the members of her class:
Her classmates, Jennifer and Amber. Jennifer is an Art teacher and Amber a darling 15 year old. We have enjoyed them through both Levels One and Two classes. Jennifer, the Art Teacher, actually made hers look like a basket!! Amber's blue cake was so precious. Her bright flowers were just so adorable. She is just a doll!

.

Here is another girl in the class, Jessica, Jessica made a gorgeous purple cake. She planned to add some My Little Ponies to the top as a special treat for a little girl she babysits for. She is so talented!! The purple basketweave was gorgeous!

Anna and her Granddaughter, Emma did not make the class today.
I miss Evelyn, she had to switch her class to another time.

Now they are all ready to move on! Me? I can't even prepare an icing bag!!

I would LOVE if you would leave her a comment! You don't have to have a blog to do so. Just click on the little button below where it has a number and says COMMENTS.

Thank you for stopping by and please have a piece of cake before you go!

Wow - this cake is amazing. I used to decroate cakes and the basketweave can be challenging if you don't get the hang of it - she did a fabulous job - the flowers are adorable.

WAY TO GO!

I think your cake is the prettiest one...I love it and I know cakes. :) I was very lucky a few years back and got to take a class from Nicholas Lodge ( he did prince charles and lady di's wedding cake) he's awesome and is located in Atlanta... anyhow I've seen very beautiful cakes and yours is up there. You have a bright future ahead of you...watch out food network.

Wow.... that cake is fantastic. Look how much you've learned from your first post which was way more than I could ever do. I love the "weaving" on the sides. Your daughter is very talented! Looks delish, but too pretty to cut!

Your Daughter did a wonderful job. When I was hard on myself when I was younger my Mom would always ask "Did you enjoy doing it?" The answer was almost always yes. And she'd say "Then thats all that matters." Beautiful cake and I bet it taste yummy!

Wow! Great job. I would love to learn to do that. My mom took a class when I was young and I loved that she made my cakes for my birthday. Maybe I will take a class once the kids go back to school.

What a beautiful cake. It's beautiful. I bet it's delicious also!

My SIL took these classes and bought a billion dollars worth of icing tips- her cakes were, unh, interesting. And the icing tips sit wherever it is that things she buys and abandons are- with the stamps and scrapbook paper and knitting needles et al. Occasionally she'll attempt to tell us she's a certified Wilton decorator and we all laugh to ourselves- her cakes were quite pedestrian compared to yours! Good job!

I love your cake! You did such an awesome job! I can hardly even put frosting on a cake but I love watching all of the food network cake challenges. I bet you will be on the show in the future. Keep up the good work!

WOW that is a great cake. I can't believe how far your DD has come in such a short time.

I also wanted to add a small tip for you two, instead of the paper towel, try parchment paper and lightly smear some white crisco shortening on one side then lightly rub over the not so smooth parts of the cake.... but make sure you have a good layer of icing to work with.

Please also tell your DD that she can get great in no time... I started with these classes in about October and took a few months off and took a few more just this spring and now I am doing sugar flowers. have her check out my blog
http://INKcrediblecreations.blogspot.com
I have posted a wedding cake I did just last week on there... it might give her something to look forward to, esp since my first cake looked very much like hers. All it takes is time and dedication. I should also say, your DD's basket weave is way nicer than mine was.

WOW ... your daughter has done a wonderful job ... I am totally amazed at her talents, especially for someone 11 years old. I can only imaging how incredible her cakes will be as she continues her classes. Does she plan to take all 4 of the Wilton Classes? I believe there are 2, 3, or even 4 more speciality classes after that too. I hope she does since she has such a beautiful talent.

Wow, if that what she does at 11 and only two classes imagine what she'll do with a little practice!!
Does she watch Ace of Cakes? Cause I think someone should call Duff and let him know he has some serious competition comin' up. Amazing. I started cake decorating when I was about that age but have never taken a class I still can't do the basket weave. It is so easy to see flaws with a microscope, take a step back and enjoy!! It's just beautiful.

Your daughter did an AWESOME job. I took a class many years ago so I could do my sister's groom's cake. I was a lot older than 11 though. She has accomplished a LOT and she should not be hard on herself. She has an amazing future if she's interested in it!
